The new fitout for St John of God Raphael Services creates a calming, supportive environment for parents in the early stages of parenthood. Thoughtfully designed counselling rooms and family spaces prioritise comfort, accessibility, and emotional safety. Reflecting the values of Raphael Services, the space offers a quiet sanctuary for care, connection, and free, compassionate support.

The Challenge

This fitout presented unique challenges within a heritage-listed building, where two separate tenancies were combined into a single, functional space. Working within the constraints of the existing structure, we collaborated closely with structural engineers to create openings through original brick walls, ensuring connectivity without compromising the building’s character. The result is a seamless, contemporary environment that respects and enhances the heritage fabric.

The Solution

To overcome these challenges, a carefully considered design and construction approach was implemented. Structural openings were strategically positioned to maintain the integrity of the existing brickwork while enabling clear circulation and functional flow between the two tenancies. Through close collaboration with engineers, consultants, and the client, the final outcome delivers a cohesive, calming space that meets modern clinical needs while honouring the building’s historical significance.

Saftey Considerations

Safety was a key priority throughout the design and construction process, particularly given the structural modifications within a heritage building. All works were carefully planned and staged to ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations, with particular attention to fire separation, access, and egress. Temporary supports were used during wall penetrations to maintain structural stability, and services were upgraded to meet current standards. The final fitout not only meets clinical and operational needs but also provides a safe, secure environment for staff, clients, and young families.

At the core of our mission lie the needs of our clients, driving everything we do. We take pride in constructing environments that enable our clients to better serve their patients, fostering a positive impact on healthcare.
