Drysdale Clinic

The key challenge for the Drysdale Clinic refurbishment was delivering a significant internal transformation while allowing the practice to remain operational throughout construction. With the clinic expanding from 10 to 14 consult rooms and incorporating new pathology, treatment, staff and support spaces, careful planning was required to maximise the existing footprint without compromising functionality. The project also needed to retain the existing external façade, meaning the new design had to work efficiently within the established building envelope while minimising disruption to patients, staff and daily clinical operations.

A carefully coordinated two-stage construction strategy allowed the refurbishment to progress while maintaining continuity of care. By keeping one half of the clinic operational while works were completed in the other, the team was able to minimise disruption and transition progressively into the new spaces. The redesigned interior improves circulation, increases waiting capacity and introduces additional consult and treatment areas, two dedicated pathology rooms, enhanced staff amenities, additional toilets and purpose-designed sterilisation and storage facilities. The result is a more efficient, flexible and contemporary healthcare environment designed to support the clinic’s current needs and future growth.

Health, wellbeing and safety were central to the planning and design of the upgraded clinic. Clear circulation pathways and considered zoning help support efficient patient movement while reducing congestion between clinical, waiting and staff areas. Increased waiting capacity and additional amenities improve comfort for patients, while enhanced staff facilities provide better spaces for respite and day-to-day operations. Dedicated sterilisation and storage areas also support effective infection control, organisation and clinical workflows. Throughout construction, staging and separation of work zones were carefully managed to help maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and contractors while the clinic remained operational.
