UGV – Urology Group Victoria, Bridge Road Consulting involved the adaptive reuse and change of use of an existing Richmond building to create a purpose-built healthcare practice. The project required careful coordination of the existing structure, services and access requirements, including the addition of a new lift and upgrades to ensure the facility met current accessibility, compliance and operational standards. The completed fitout combines a calm, sophisticated palette of rich greens, warm timbers and earthy tones with a highly functional clinical layout, resulting in a welcoming environment that supports both patient comfort and efficient day-to-day practice operations.

The Challenge

The project involved the change of use and adaptive reuse of an existing Richmond building to accommodate a modern urology practice. This required the design team to work carefully within the constraints of the existing structure while addressing healthcare-specific planning, accessibility, building code and operational requirements. A key challenge was upgrading the building to provide compliant access across all areas, including the integration of a new lift, while coordinating services and clinical functions within the existing footprint.

The Solution

Calibre Healthcare Interiors developed a considered design response that transformed the existing building into a fully compliant, purpose-built healthcare environment. The solution incorporated a new lift, accessibility upgrades, coordinated building services and a functional clinical layout tailored to the operational needs of UGV – Urology Group Victoria. The design balances efficient staff and patient movement with a strong visual identity, using rich greens, warm timbers and earthy tones to create a sophisticated and cohesive practice.

Health and Wellbeing Considerations

Patient comfort and wellbeing were central to the design approach. A warm, calming material palette was selected to reduce the clinical feel of the environment and create a more welcoming experience from arrival through to consultation. Clear circulation, accessible facilities, considered lighting and comfortable waiting spaces support ease of movement and help reduce stress for patients, while efficient planning and functional work areas contribute to staff wellbeing and effective day-to-day operations.
